Governor Hochul Announces Nominee for the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government

Governor Hochul announced a new nominee to the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government, James Caras. Caras previously served as Special Counsel to Speaker Adrienne Adams in the NYC Council, and General Counsel to the prior Speaker, Corey Johnson, before his retirement last year. He also currently teaches at New York Law School. The Independent Review Committee, composed of the deans of New York’s law schools, will review Caras’ qualifications to serve on the Commission. However, the future of the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government is in question, given a recent appellate decision that found it was created in violation of New York’s constitution.
