Mayor Adams Campaign Investigation

Federal agents seized Mayor Adams’ electronic devices early last week, as investigations into his campaign continue. This follows a raid at the home of Adams’ chief fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, the week prior. The federal investigation is looking into whether Adams’ 2021 campaign conspired with the Turkish government and others to add money to their campaign accounts via a “straw donor” scheme.

NYC General Election Results 2023

The NYC general election was held last Tuesday, November 7. All 51 City Council members were on the ballot, along with the District Attorneys for Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, several judgeships, and two state ballot proposals. 14 City Council members ran unopposed, and incumbent Council Members were almost universally successful in their re-election bids.  In two closely-watched races, Justin Brannan (D) defeated Ari Kagan (R) in south Brooklyn Council District 47, and Vickie Paladino (R) held off a challenge from Tony Avella (D).  In Sunset Park, Susan Zhuang (D) won Brooklyn’s newly-drawn Asian-majority Council District 43 seat.  Marjorie Velazquez (D) was the only incumbent to lose in the general election, falling to Kristy Marmorato (R) in the Bronx’s Council District 13. Overall, the campaign season revealed some political shifts in the City, suggesting a resurgence of moderate to conservative voices.  The incoming City Council will have six Republican and 45 Democratic representatives.
