Michael Klein analyzes the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County (MAWC) v. 3M Company et al. complaint in The Water News Source. MAWC filed a complaint containing six separate causes of action, alleging that more than 20 defendants are responsible for the contamination and pollution of natural resources in and around Westmoreland County.

The plaintiff claims that the drinking water and wastewater treatment systems MAWC owns have been contaminated with per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which they assert is the result of the defendants’ designing, manufacturing, marketing, distributing, supplying, and selling aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) products. MAWC seeks to recover all costs, losses, damages, and other forms of relief pertaining to PFAS that are traceable to AFFF products.
