Let’s Get Down to Business: A Glimpse Into the SEC’s Fall 2021 Agenda [The Legal Intelligencer]

Katayun Jaffari authored an article discussing leadership changes in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and initiatives the commission undertook in the first half of 2021 as well as its agenda for the fall in The Legal Intelligencer.

The change in the administration was followed by a leadership change in the SEC when Gary Gensler was sworn in as the commission’s new chair in April. Kathy discusses Gensler’s commitment to the role as well as additional appointments to the SEC.

The article also looks at the SEC’s extensive rulemaking agenda items, which include disclosure relating to climate risk; human capital, including workforce diversity and cybersecurity risk; market structure modernization with equity markets, treasury markets, and other investment fund rules, including money market funds, private funds, and ESG funds; and special purpose acquisition companies, among many others. The commission will have a particular focus on cybersecurity, specifically inquiries and enforcement as well as ESG, in which SEC staff has been instructed to develop recommendations regarding governance, strategy, and risk management related to climate risk.
