Edward Weisz wrote about the legal landscape for food and beverage manufacturers looking to enter the hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD) market. The biggest stumbling block is that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers CBD to be prohibited substance in food and beverage products. Nevertheless, according to cannabis-focused consulting firm Brightfield Group, cannabis-infused drinks had a 2017 market value of $163 million and sales of these drinks are expected to grow by more than 250% by 2021.
