Leni Cummins Discusses Use of Drones by Condominiums and Cooperatives in The Cooperator

With drones being used more widely in the business world, an apartment co-op in Queens, NY, has recognized the value in using this technology for routine building maintenance. Glen Oaks Village started using compact drones in 2015 to inspect its 110-acre property. As a result, the cooperative has minimized expenses and reduced safety concerns for maintenance staff. Leni Cummins, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Real Estate practice group, cautions that although the new technology offers many benefits, there are new FAA rules, regulations and restrictions to consider. Leni noted that, “One cannot fly a drone over people or moving vehicles and must remain at least 25 feet away from individuals.”
